The Matching Process

At Heartland Surrogacy, we build beautiful families by creating matches from the heart. We know that surrogates and intended parents alike trust us to properly prepare, lead, and support them in their journeys. We work with our clients to facilitate a good match based on everyone’s goals and expectations for the surrogacy journey.

Before the Match

Prior to being accepted into our program, intended parents and surrogates have completed an application, undergone interviews with our agency, and passed criminal background checks. Additionally, surrogates have passed a medical records review and a home visit.

Matching Process

After a client is accepted into our program, we create a profile for them that includes information such as demographics (without identifying information), views on important topics like termination and communication, a personal letter, and photos.

We play “matchmaker” by continually reviewing profiles to find matches that we think will work well. When we find one, we present the intended parents’ profile to the surrogate for review first. At that time, the surrogate can decide to move forward or not. If she would like to move forward, we will send her profile to the intended parents. They also get to decide if they are interested in moving forward. If both parties want to move forward, the next step is a match meeting.

A representative of our agency will mediate the first meeting between a potential match, which may take place in person or via Skype. During this meeting, we take time to help the surrogate (and her partner, if applicable) and intended parents get to know each other and discuss many of the same items that we consider during matching. We guide the conversation through any additional questions either side may have. If both parties decide to move forward after the match meeting, then it’s official!

After the Match

Although we prescreen all surrogate applicants, there is more work to be done after a match is confirmed. A psychological evaluation and medical screening are scheduled, based on the requirements of the intended parents’ fertility clinic.

During this time, we also connect the surrogate and intended parents so that they can get to know each other more as they begin their journey together. We continue to provide support and guidance before, during, and after pregnancy.
